Yesterday was a perfect first day of fall for our cross country meet! 🍂 A big thank you to all the schools that joined us on our course, and congratulations to the runners who turned in such strong performances. It was a joy to host the race on our scenic campus — a beautiful setting to mark the start of the season.
🌿 At Emerson, learning doesn’t stop at 3:15—it grows, blooms, and flourishes. 🌸
In our "Reuse, Repurpose & Recreate" after-school enrichment class, students wrapped up their creative projects with a walk through the Emerson permaculture garden. Surrounded by flowers, bees, and butterflies, they learned about pollinators and the importance of leaving plenty of blooms for them.
Each child filled a repurposed florist tube with water, chose a few flowers, and brought them home as a gift—paired with a hug, a thank-you, or both.
Enrichment classes like this are part of Emerson’s robust after-school program, where curiosity and creativity continue to blossom long after the school day ends.
🦋 Ms. Pops’ 2nd graders had the joy of releasing one of the butterflies raised by Doña Deborah in our school library. On a beautiful day filled with sunshine and smiles, the class watched as their delicate friend spread its wings and soared into the world.
Moments like these remind us of the wonder in learning—and the beauty of letting go. 🌸
🎓 8th Grade Leaders in Action 🎓
At Emerson, we love seeing our 8th graders step into their roles as leaders and role models for our community. Whether through Ambassadors, Student Council, Tri-M, Robotics, or other activities, our oldest students take on responsibilities that prepare them for the journey ahead.
Last week, our 8th graders traveled to EMU for Leadership Day—a workshop designed to spark self-reflection, teamwork, and growth. They explored who they are now and who they want to become, building skills that will guide them both inside and outside the classroom as they look toward high school and beyond.

Our community came together on Sunday for Emerson’s Back-to-School Bash, and it was everything we could have hoped for and more. Families gathered on the playground to enjoy delicious ice cream, yard games, and plenty of laughter, all set to the sounds of a special parent-led band.
It was the perfect way to celebrate the start of a new school year—a joyful afternoon filled with connection, music, and the beauty of our Emerson community.✨

At our all-school assembly to close out the first week, Mr. Zimmer welcomed our newest students, recognized our 8th graders as the leaders of our community, led us in singing the school song, and reminded us all of the importance of staying curious—one of Emerson’s most cherished core values.
