Unrestricted Gifts

Contributions made to the Annual Fund for the school’s general operating expenses may be directed by the school’s leaders to the area of greatest need. Although all donations are greatly appreciated, unrestricted gifts are the most flexible and therefore the most valuable a school can receive. If someone is unwilling to make an unrestricted gift, he/she may choose to request that his/her gift be used to support a particular school program. This kind of gift is often restricted to the purchase of specific equipment or special projects. Such gifts, although part of the Annual Fund, do not support current operating expenses and are therefore segregated for reporting purposes.

Annual Fund dollars help Emerson offer competitive
faculty salaries and benefits.

This means Emerson students are guided and taught by some of the finest educators available.  Annual Fund contributions ensure that the school can attract as many talented teachers as are necessary to maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio.

Currently, the Annual Fund supplies about 2.5% of the operating budget.

Our long term goal is to increase this contribution to 8%. Schools in which the Annual fund contributes 8% to the operating budget are best equipped to serve the educational, social, and emotional needs of their children.

The Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising campaign designed to raise money to help meet the gap between tuition revenues and the actual cost of the operating budget. Gifts to the Annual Fund are made by alumni/ae, parents, grandparents, and friends. Unlike public schools, independent schools operate without any financial support from the local tax base or from state or federal government.

people, programs, and facility

The Annual Fund supports curriculum development, professional development, supplemental educational programs, acquisitions for the library, guest speakers and films, athletic equipment, and much more.

Annual Fund contributions also support financial aid, which helps Emerson preserve a school community of diverse cultural, racial, geographic, occupational and economic backgrounds. Emerson believes that a diverse community stimulates the educational process and leads to a greater understanding and appreciation of others.
