Every Family Has a Story
Project kicks off with a day of learning and appreciation
February 8, 2009
Ann Arbor - Every family has a story, a personal tapestry of individual tales threading across cultures and through generations, a unique family treasure.
Today, the Emerson community gathered in appreciation of the family story. Although it was the weekend, there was a whole lot of learning going on at the kick-off event of the Emerson Family Stories Project.
Kyle Norris of Michigan Public Radio shared effective interviewing skills for collecting information. Fritz Shafer talked about taking photos that are sure to enhance a family tale. Workshops for young and old alike offered hands-on experience with media used to gather, edit, and share stories.
And a potluck of favorite recipes rounded out the day.
The Emerson Family Stories Project, inspired by last year’s Passport to the World event, is an all-school, all-family initiative headed by Emerson School Parent Organization. Many thanks to the volunteers who made the kick-off event a community success.
